Langford House

Asselby New House

Our clients had the opportunity to build a new house in the centre of this quiet village surrounded by traditional vernacular brick houses. However, while the front respects the more traditional setting with its form and materials, the back of the house and interior are in every respect contemporary. A large and mature sycamore tree had to be protected throughout the construction period with measures to protect the roots and trunk as required by the Planners.

The house is traditionally built in cavity brick and blockwork over three floors. The house was created as a one off open plan 3 bedroom house with the whole of the top floor as one open plan master bedroom. As you can see the spaces, materials and finishes are designed to be read as one fluid space with an eclectic mixture of new and period furniture and fittings. The curved bespoke chrome and solid oak staircase curves up through three floors. At the rear is a single storey oak living space with an exposed oak trussed roof and glazing to the gable. As the interior layout does not have the usual separation between the living spaces to reduce fire risk to the upper floors the house has a sprinkler system installed. The house has underfloor heating on the ground and first and second floors.
